The Wavecrest App
Recovery isn’t lived in scheduled hours. It happens at 11pm on a Tuesday, in the gap between one meeting and the next, in the moment something shifts and there’s no one obvious to tell. The Wavecrest app was built for those moments. It’s a private iOS app made specifically for our Alumni Program, giving alumni a daily community board, a daily sobriety tracker, and daily reflections and exercises — connection and structure available the moment you need them, not just at your next appointment.

What the App Does
Three core features, each built for daily use, not just occasional check-ins:
Community Board — Daily
A private feed shared with the Wavecrest alumni community. Post a win, ask for support, or respond to someone else having a hard night. Often, the most valuable part is being the one who replies.
Sobriety Tracker — Daily
Track your days, milestones, and progress over time. Tracking your own behavior is a well-proven way to support change — simply recording the day makes the day count.
Reflections & Exercises — Daily
A daily prompt or exercise drawn from the same approaches used in our programs — CBT and DBT skills practice that keeps what you learned in treatment active in everyday life.
Why Daily?
Because that’s the timeframe where recovery is either practiced or it isn’t — especially in the months after stepping down from IOP into standard outpatient care. Weekly contact is enough to notice a problem after it’s already developed. Daily contact is enough to catch one while it’s still forming — and it builds the habit of checking in with yourself on ordinary days, so that habit is already there on the hard ones.
The Evidence Behind Digital Recovery Support
This isn’t just a nice-to-have feature. Smartphone-based recovery support has been tested in real clinical trials, with meaningful results. In a study published in JAMA Psychiatry, patients who used a multi-feature recovery app after residential treatment had an average of 1.4 heavy drinking days over a twelve-month follow-up, compared to 2.8 heavy drinking days among patients who received standard continuing care alone — roughly half as many. The study’s authors concluded that a multi-feature smartphone app can meaningfully help patients in continuing care.
The app is built around the same mechanisms this research points to: being available at all hours, peer connection that doesn’t require waiting for a scheduled meeting, and self-monitoring that makes both progress and risk visible. These are the same principles behind our weekly alumni meeting — just extended across the rest of the week.

How It Fits With the Rest of Continuing Care
The app is one part of the Wavecrest continuing care model, not a stand-alone product. It works alongside:
- The weekly Alumni Community Meeting — the app keeps the connection going through the week between meetings
- Standard outpatient treatment, for alumni continuing in ongoing therapy
- Connections, our family program, which keeps supporting loved ones after discharge
- Mutual-aid groups like 12-step and SMART Recovery, which the app supports rather than replaces

Getting Access
The Wavecrest app is available to Wavecrest Behavioral Health alumni on iOS. Access is set up as part of your discharge planning, so most clients leave treatment with the app already installed and their account ready to go. If you’re an alum who never got set up, or you switched phones and lost access, call us at 866-366-6178 and we’ll get you reconnected.
Digital Peer Engagement at Wavecrest Behavioral Health
At Wavecrest Behavioral Health, we built our own app instead of pointing alumni toward a generic one, because the community inside it matters just as much as the features do. It’s the people you went through treatment with, the same approaches you already learned here, and a daily reason to check in with yourself — all in the place you’re probably already looking twenty times a day.
To learn more about our Alumni Program and the app, or to reconnect your access, call Wavecrest at 866-366-6178.
